Elaine Adrienne Smolanoff

Elaine Smolanoff passed away peacefully in her nursing home on Tuesday August 17th, 2021. She was ninety-four years old. Elaine leaves behind her three children Ken, Bonnie and Rita, her four grandchildren Hal, Jennifer, Hannah and Carly, and her three great grandchildren Zachary, Jacob and Hailey. Elaine was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York and her parents immigrated to the United States from Poland. She met her husband in Brooklyn at a dance and they got married on Thanksgiving Day in 1950 and had three children Ken, Bonnie, and Rita. Elaine and Jack’s marriage ended, and Elaine continued to raise her three children as a single mother. Elaine moved to Kew Gardens for a short time and then moved to Forest Hills, New York when her children were adults. Forest Hills, New York is a melting pot of all different faiths and cultures but has a strong Jewish population. Elaine was always independent, strong willed, and hard working. She worked as an executive secretary for Chase bank while she took care of her children and always made sure they were provided for. Once she retired, she saved all of her money and traveled all throughout the world. She had a love for the arts including museums, Lincoln center, operas and more. She had a true appreciation for reading and spent weekly visits at the library. Elaine was devoted to her Jewish faith celebrating holidays, visiting a Jewish center weekly to gather for meals and fellowship with friends, and sharing history and stories with those she loved. Elaine has left behind a legacy for all those who knew and loved her. She dreamt of living in Florida and for the last year and a half of her life, she was able to do that. Everyone at her nursing home loved her and said whenever they needed to smile, they would visit her and her roommate. During the last eighteen months, Covid made visiting more challenging and so we were blessed with technology and face time. Every time someone spoke to her on the phone and asked how she was, her response was “I get up in the morning, I have no pain, I get my three meals a day. What more could I ask for?” She would always put a smile on our face. Even up until her last days here on earth, she was always positive even when we knew she wasn’t feeling well. She left such an impact on so many people, and her family and friends will keep her in their hearts forever. We know she is with God and is looking down on all of us. A graveside service for Elaine will be held Sunday, August 22, 2021 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Baldwin Fairchild Alternatives @ All Faiths, 1390 Park Drive, Casselberry, FL 32707.
