Richard Lewis Gryte

Richard Lewis Gryte, 92, of Longwood, FL, died on Thursday, April 7, 2022 surrounded by his loved ones. He was born in Queens Village, NY to the late Lewis Adolph and Ainslee (Andrew) Gryte. Richard earned his Bachelor’s degree from Rollins College and his Master’s Degree in Education from UCF and was a special education teacher in local Florida schools. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged. Richard was an elder in the Maitland Presbyterian Church and was a member of the Stephen Ministry. He also volunteered his time in community service with the Rotary Club. In retirement, Richard and his wife, Elna traveled the U.S. and Canada by R.V. and had a wonderful time sight-seeing, making lasting memories and enjoying each other’s company. Richard also took up drawing in his later years and spent time expanding his creativity. Family, which only came second to his faith in Christ, was most important to him. He LOVED spending time with family. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by Elna (Caraway) his devoted wife of 52 years; his children: Amy Williams and husband Kent, Mark Brackney and wife Julie; Nannette Roop and husband James and Richel Boyce and husband Jeffery; his adored grandchildren: Jasmine Sauls (Matthew), Lexy Navarrete, Jessica Malcolm (Kevin), Devon, Andrew and Will Brackney, Bryce and Dylan (Amanda) Williams, James (Mattie) Wilson, Matthew (Alexi), Luke, Adam and Christina Boyce, Lena and Audrey Gutierrez and Matthew and Jonathan Roop; his cherished great-grandchildren: Mattie and Nolan Sauls, Nate, Christian and Sebastian Navarrete, Jackson Brackney, Mason and Sage Williams, Dylnn Malcolm and Summer Lynn Wilson and his sister Margo Ritter (Michael). In addition to his parents, Richard was predeceased by his son, Robert Brackney and his sister, Betty West. A Celebration of Richard’s Life will be held at a later date.
